Training awards

RISCO Group UK enrolled its entire operations team on an NVQ Business Improvement Techniques Diploma course last year in preparation for a planned move to a new warehouse in the third quarter of 2012. The aim was to improve the skills and motivate the team in preparation for the challenges ahead. The security company won in two categories at the YP Training awards ceremony.

YP held its annual awards at the Marriott Hotel in Leeds on Wednesday, May 15.  The awards are in recognition of the business and individuals who carry out training in a demonstrably successful and beneficial manner.

Winner of the Best Newcomer Award was Risco Group UK Ltd and winner of the Individual Award  was Tony Parker, Warehouse Manager, Risco Group UK Ltd.

The training consisted of in-house classroom training and practical work covering health and safety, team working, 5S, Kaizen, visual management and problem solving modules.  The course duration was 20 weeks and each week Phil Davidson, YP’s Lean Trainer and Assessor visited RISCO’s Middleton office to train, offer advice and assessment of the teams in their tasks, workflow and designated projects.

RISCO has extended the course to include the office based staff. All of the above modules are covered in smaller “bite sized” projects within a 10 weeks timeframe. Phil said: “All training is centred on an improvement activity in your manufacturing or office area and each unit is a mini qualification in its own right that can be used to build towards a full L2 Business Improvement Techniques NVQ Diploma”. This also enables the flexibility to focus on specific areas for improvement and provides for the release of staff from their job function for shorter periods.

Jonathan Green, RISCO Operations Manager added: “I have been impressed with the way that the team have implemented the skills learned during the training, you can really see the difference in their motivation and their enthusiasm to propose changes that might make improvements to the way we work. We are all looking forward to the move to the new warehouse with great relish.”
