Accreditation for Lincoln

by Mark Rowe

Lincoln Business Improvement Group, the BID (Business Improvement District) which manages the city centre, has gained its first Safer Business Accreditation from the NABCP (National Association of Business Crime Partnerships). This comes after a recent assessment of the management and performance of their crime partnership.

There are 277 members of the security group including retail, the evening economy, the City of Lincoln council, CCTV, police and the CBO team. As well as making an important contribution to community safety and crime prevention and reduction in the city, the group maintains working relationships with police, the community safety partnership, probation service, drug and alcohol teams and the Nomad night shelter charity with a diverted giving scheme to bring more structured and positive help to street people. With a thriving university, it also runs a safe bike scheme and has produced an anti-social activity pack giving retailers advice on how to deal with incidents both inside their premises and on the pavement outside.

Yvette Hall, crime manager for Lincoln BIG said: “I am pleased that our hard work has been recognised by NABCP through this national award. A major part of what we do involves the management of information about offenders and suspects who may be involved in business crime, public disorder and anti-social behaviour, We assess the information for quality and value of the content and make a judgement on how or whether to utilise it in the interests of our members for crime prevention and detection.”

And Mike Schuck, operations director for NABCP said: “The security group is a well-managed and effective part of the BID and community safety in Lincoln. Yvette is an extremely experienced and knowledgeable manager, who has a firm grasp of the issues and problems in the city.”
