Air ambulance fund-raisers

by Mark Rowe

Cyclists from Videalert, the suppliers of traffic enforcement and management products, pictured, and Imtech Traffic & Infra have so far raised more than £11,000 for Hampshire Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). The team were sponsored to ride from London to Paris in four days, a 230 mile journey completed at the end of May.

The fund-raisers are well over halfway towards meeting their target of £20,000, an amount that they expect to exceed after a charity dinner dance at Winchester Rugby Club in September. As well as a four course dinner and dancing to a live band, the event will feature a Q&A session with a guest and a charity auction.

The cyclists celebrated at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, sharing the highs and lows of a journey that started in London on May 26. With the aid of a support vehicle sponsored by Imtech Traffic & Infra, the team rode from Trafalgar Square to Newhaven via the infamous Ditchling Beacon where they caught the ferry to Dieppe before cycling to Forges-Les-Eaux on day two. The next day proved to be particularly challenging with a gruelling ride through the French countryside from Forges-les-Eaux to Cergy before the final leg to reach Paris on day four.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance receive no government funding and rely on charitable donations. It costs the charity £125,000 a month to keep the air ambulance flying. To donate visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/helicopterheroes
