Chilled T&A

by Mark Rowe

Stanley Security Solutions has completed the installation of security and Time and Attendance (T&A) systems for a chilled food distribution company.

Established for over 30 years, NFT offers chilled, time-critical food and drink logistics serving importers and grocery retailers. To do so, the company has a planned, temperature controlled distribution network comprising seven sites across the UK, employing 1700 staff.

To manage staff and to maintain its customer service, NFT uses Stanley’s NT500 access control system and has recently upgraded its T&A system at its Daventry, Northamptonshire site to Stanley’s Zeus. That provides automatic calculations of hours worked, breaks and overtime in real time, with email reporting and full export to Excel, so that the logistics firm’s HR is always up to date. The system helps the logistics firm reduce absenteeism and manage efficiently.

Zeus is being used at NFT Daventry with four hand punched terminals located at the warehouse and administration department. It can cope with the 700 employees and eight languages being spoken on site.

After this project, Stanley Security was also awarded the contract to design and install new CCTV at NFT Daventry. Some 57 internal and external cameras include many Pan, Tilt and Zoom HD cameras, with some existing cameras incorporated into the new system. Images are fed back to the operations manager’s room and are recorded 24 hours a day using five DVRs. Stanley has designed the CCTV to also be accessed remotely through a VPN connection.

The CCTV is concentrated in the operational side of the warehouse not purely for security, but also for health and safety and insurance purposes. Gavin Symington, NFT Daventry Site Operations Manager says: “As a very busy logistics company we have multiple deliveries in and out of the warehouse. We use the CCTV to examine any health and safety related issues that may arise and also to check against claims of product damage. The latter aspect is important to both us and the client, allowing us to either identify any issues that may arise and for the client to correctly identify the source of damage, which we more often than not find to be from an off-site third party.”
