Distinction for Nottingham

by Mark Rowe

Nottingham’s Business Improvement District Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) has achieved the Safer Business Accreditation with distinction. That’s at its first attempt, after joining the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP).

This followed an assessment which examined the partnership, including links and relations with partners in the city. It operates city centre exclusion schemes for the daytime and evening, a digital radio scheme for members, and an intranet service for information sharing. The BID BCRP works with various others including police, the city council and street pastors, acting as a link between them and their members to foster good relationships and information sharing.

Neil Fincham, director of Nottingham BID with responsibility for the business crime portfolio said: “We are delighted to have secured this accreditation, and to have gained it with distinction is particularly pleasing. It is recognition of all the efforts that we put in to combating business crime in the city centre.” Neil has been invited to speak on behalf of the Nottingham BID at an event in London later this month as a result of Nottingham being highlighted in a recent Home Office report for the inroads it is making into tackling the issue of alcohol abuse.”

And Mike Schuck, operations director for NABCP said: “The business crime partnership in Nottingham is an excellent model and fulfilled our criteria for a distinction at my recent inspection. This helps to provide the BID businesses with evidence that they are receiving value for money from the operation and that the crime partnership is working to help reduce the impact of crime and anti-social behaviour upon their businesses. This is an increasingly important aspect of local community safety as police resources continue to be stretched and businesses need to work together effectively to help maintain Nottingham and a safe and pleasant place for businesses, their customers and staff. To have secured the accreditation with distinction at the first at attempt is particularly noteworthy and shows that the partnership is well advanced and has shown evidence of greater achievement than required for a simple pass.”
