The Manchester Security event on November 13 for businesses from the region ran at St Ann’s Church in the city.

Manchester Deputy Mayor, Baroness Beverley Hughes opened the event and Assistant Chief Constable Russ Jackson QPM from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) gave an update on counter-terrorism. Former SIA chairman Baroness Ruth Henig spoke about the contribution and challenges of regulation in the security industry; and other presentations covered city centre policing and the pending introduction of the Project Servator patrol tactic.

The event also saw the presentation of GMP Business Watch Coordinator of the Year award; to Joe Mossford, Security Manager at the Midland Hotel. He’s pictured centre, between Baroness Hughes and ACC Jackson.

Joe has been with the hotel for 15 years and is the chair of the Hotel Security Information Group (HOSIG) that helps coordinate intelligence for group members. Joe and his team work closely with the police especially during party political conferences in the city.

GMP Supt Chris Hill said: “Joe has demonstrated support to his colleagues and other hotels under his leadership as the HOSIG Chair in disseminating police requests for information and circulating intelligence, some of which is vital. His support to the Police at major events, such as party-political conferences help to ensure they pass without major issues.”

Organised by Manchester City Centre Crime Prevention Panel (MCCCPP) with the support of Greater Manchester Police, Manchester City Council and Atmaana Business Consulting, this annual event aims to inform businesses about current issues facing the region and better prepare them in dealing with any security challenges that they may face.

Paul King, Chair of the MCCCPP said afterwards: “The event provides a fantastic opportunity to come together and share best practice helping to provide a safe and secure future for businesses going forward. I would like to thank the event sponsors SecuriGroup and SelectaDNA for their support.”
