Master key suites for university

by Mark Rowe

Bristol University has had Mul-T-lock MTL600 master key suites, installed by Guardian Security Systems fitted to over 20 buildings across campus.

Antony Blundal, Security Services Manager (Systems) at the university says: “University premises present a number of security challenges due to the open nature of the campus sites. There are different access requirements across all the facilities to consider. Working closely with Guardian Security Systems and Mul-T-Lock we developed a specification using MTL600, which offers high security and is flexible to accommodate these issues and remain cost-effective. The master key operation is invaluable to keep maintenance to a minimum and the patent protection allows us better control of how many key copies are in existence.”

Patent protected until 2032, MTL600 offers a combination of several tech elements to create resistance against types of lock manipulation, the lock manufacturer says.

The product is available in various formats, which let Guardian create master keying systems with different locking products across campus, including a range of cylinders, padlocks and locks.

Ken Ham of Bristol-based Guardian Security Systems said: “MTL™600 uses the latest design technology and highly automated production techniques to deliver precision engineering with unparalleled performance. This is why it was particularly suitable for Bristol University, who we worked with to design, build and maintain the master key suites across campus to ensure high-quality security, whilst also providing necessary access for staff and students.”
