Partnership day

by Mark Rowe

Partnerships Against Crime, supported by the Metropolitan Police (Met) is holding a one-day conference in London, on Wednesday, October 23. Titled ‘Partnering with the Police to Reduce Business Crime’ the event seeks to address the working relationship between police and Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs), and will offer lessons learnt and guidance from BCRPs.

The event at the London Hippodrome will be opened by Deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey QPM, and will feature speakers from the police and partners.

Invited speakers include Tony Mernagh from Brighton and Hove Business Crime Reduction Partnership and Lisa Perreta, Business Crime Manager at Brighton and Hove; Roy Smith, Met Police Lead, on Business Crime Reduction Partnerships; Bill Moss, Maidstone Town Centre Manager; Debbie Dobson of Hounslow Business Against Crime; and Taunton-based Andy Sharman of Somerset West Businesses Against Crime.

How Business Crime Reduction Partnerships work

Briefly, Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs) aim at reducing crime within the retail and night-time economy sectors in town and city centres. The BCRPs work with police who are a source of local information, support and advice on good practice procedures. From a policing perspective, supporting and working with business partnerships generates intelligence about local crime and anti-social behaviour, and provides a channel for communicating with the local business community. Police need to ensure that partnerships are legally compliant, and have a robust and effective Information Sharing Agreement (ISA). Partnerships need reassurance that police target issues as identified by partnerships.
