The charity Crimestoppers that runs the crime-reporting freephone line is launching a campaign alongside the Post Office to tackle cash in transit (CIT) robberies in the West Midlands.
Titled ‘We’re on their tail’, the campaign was prompted by robberies from Post Office cash in transit vehicles.
Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. As ever, Crimestoppers promises that if people do come forward, their identity will never be revealed and no one will know they have made contact.
Crimestoppers West Midlands Regional Manager, Pauline Hadley, said: “These incidents occurring in the West Midlands are exposing staff to frightening ordeals when they are simply trying to do their job. Post offices fulfil an integral role for local communities and these attacks are causing a huge amount of disruption and distress. Some people may feel uncomfortable with going to the police, which is why I am reaching out to the public to come forward to Crimestoppers and give your information anonymously. You’ll never have to speak to the police or go to court – all we want is your information.”
Senior Security Manager for the Post Office, Rob King said: “The Post Office is responsible for providing products and services right at the very heart of the community. It is vital that our customers can rely on these services to be maintained. We have a duty to keep customers and delivery staff safe so are pleased to be part of a partnership to produce an effective crime prevention campaign. This is a great opportunity to work closely with Crimestoppers and West Midlands Police on a structured campaign focused towards cash delivery crime and network robbery offences. By working together in partnership we can make a significant impact on crime reduction and make our Post Offices safer for both staff and customers alike.”
