Retail fraud survey

by Mark Rowe

In 2016 the UK Retail Fraud Survey will provide the single most detailed picture available of the evolving fraud challenge facing retailers, according to Paul Bessant, founder of Retail Knowledge, and publishers of the survey.

Now coming into its seventh year, the 2016 survey, sponsored by stock counting product company WIS International, will be based on primary research into the systems, processes and strategies used by 100 of the UK’s top retailers. Last year’s retailer participants accounted for over 52pc of all retail transactions in the UK by sales value.

Bessant said: “By sharing information about their systems, processes and strategies across a broad sample, retailers can better understand what is working and what is not as well as getting early warning of emerging threats and trending crimes. This allows them to take early action to protect their assets, improve key business processes and practices, and inevitably improve their bottom lines. We are delighted to announce WIS International’s continued support of our UK Survey for 2016, for the greater good of the retail risk and loss prevention community in the UK and indeed around the world.”

Geoff Chaplin, Managing Director of WIS International, said: “We are very pleased to support the UK Retail Fraud Survey for the second year in a row, which provides important opportunities to help retailers in their fight against crime. Knowing the trends and keeping tuned-in to the current threats merchants are dealing with helps the entire industry stay ahead of the increasing hazards of fraud.”

A briefing session for participating retailers is planned for Retail Fraud – London, the annual retail risk and loss prevention event, in April 2016. The briefing will show participating retailers how they can best use the survey to fight loss and gain competitive advantage in their businesses.
