Retailer advice

by Mark Rowe

Retail Business Technology Expo (RBTE) 2013 has launched its Retailer Advice Centre. Retail industry figures will be offering advice and consultancy for free at RBTE.

Chris Hughes, payments specialist Mark McMurtrie and retail consultant Brian Hume and his team from Martec will be on hand throughout the two days of the show. Also available for specialist sessions:

Sarah Pavlou, International Women in Business โ€“ Sarah is an International Retail Consultant, experienced in International Franchising, Sourcing Investors, and more.

Richard Mader โ€“ Richard served as Executive Director of the Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS), a division of the National Retail Federation, and has over 30 yearsโ€™ experience in retail information management. โ€œWhat am I expecting to get asked at RBTE? When and how will consumers and retailers adopt mobile payments? There are many options for mobile wallets from giants such as PayPal. Lots of related questions: are they secure, what are the fees, how will I know where my wallet is accepted, what are advantages to me and others? One thing I do know my new mobile has a NFC chip so I am ready.โ€ โ€“ Richard Mader.

Paul Rodgers, Vendorcom โ€“ Paul is a recognised figure in the cards and payments committee, with Vendorcom supporting the cards and payments industry. โ€ The most widely asked question in relation to consumer payments is; โ€œHow can I pick the winning solution from the vast array of confusing options that are all vying for my attention and budget? Is there a definitive consumer payments routemap and how can I tell the silver bullets from the blanks? Maybe thatโ€™s three questions but theyโ€™re all related!โ€ โ€“ Paul Rodgers.

Brian Kilcourse, RSR Research – an ex-retailer, Brian fully understands the challenges facing retailers. โ€œI expect to get asked โ€˜Will โ€œmobileโ€ replace โ€œcardsโ€, and โ€œwhenโ€?โ€™ and my answer is โ€˜yes in the next 18-36 monthsโ€™.โ€- Brian Kilcourse.

John Hall, GS1 – With 20 years in senior trading and commercial roles within British food retailing, John now heads retail industry development for GS1 UK, the not-for-profit organisation working to make businesses more efficient by getting everybody speaking the same language when it comes to locating, transporting and trading goods.

Paul Crutchley, GSMA – The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators. Paul manages the development for each of the market ecosystems within the Mobile NFC Services programme, developing a common approach and understanding, taking best practice across each market.

Retailer Advice slots can be booked on the day at RBTE โ€“ March 12 and 13 โ€“see http://retailbusinesstechnologyexpo.com/index.php/educational-programme/retail-advice-centre
