Retailer trials Payment Watch

by Mark Rowe

Morrisons Supermarkets PLC, the supermarket chain and fuel retailer, has begun trials with the petrol forecourt crime reduction body BOSS (British Oil Security Syndicate) and its Payment Watch scheme.

Morrisons is running a trial of Payment Watch over several forecourts in its estate. Fuel service stations within Morrisons’ trial group have become members of BOSS’s debt recovery scheme. That includes a co-ordinated way of recovering financial losses incurred by ‘no means of payment’ cases. The trial is to run during 2015.

Kevin Eastwood, executive director at BOSS, pictured, said: “We’re pleased to have the opportunity to work with one of the country’s leading fuel retailers. BOSS’s Payment Watch scheme is a proven service that helps to protect fuel retailers’ businesses financially. We’re also leading the way in identifying multiple offenders and supporting the police in pursuing and prosecuting persistent offenders.”

And David Halsall, Head of LP Corporate Protection at Morrisons, said: “We’ve been impressed with the effectiveness and initial results of the BOSS Payment Watch scheme. The scheme’s reporting system is simple, effective and will enable our forecourts to follow up and recover any losses which they may incur from this type of incident.”
