Home Office minister Lord Taylor of Holbeach has announced an Acting Chair of the Security Industry Authority. Bill Matthews, pictured, succeeds Baroness Ruth Henig whose term of appointment came to an end on January 14.
The appointment was made following a formal recruitment campaign.
According to the Home Office, Mr Matthewsโ appointment is for one year, and his main responsibility will be leading the SIA through the transition to a business licensing regime.
Home Office Minister Lord Taylor said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Matthews as Acting Chair of the SIA. I am sure that he will bring his energy and experience to this vital and challenging role as the SIA moves towards a new regime based on regulation of businesses.โ
The Home Office added that it will begin recruitment for a permanent chair โin due courseโ.
About Bill Matthews
He became the Scottish Board Member of the Security Industry Authority in 2008 and has worked with Scottish Government in Edinburgh on the Scottish SIA regulation, which happened later than in England and Wales.
He began his career as an engineer with Motorola, leading to a 15 year career in operations, marketing and senior management roles. Following a subsequent period in the small and medium enterprise sector, he developed a portfolio of non-executive roles in the public and private sector. He has worked in criminal justice and law enforcement since 2004, including roles as a member of the Management Board of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, and the Scottish Police Services Authority.
He holds degrees in engineering, psychology and business administration, and is a member of the BBC Trust and the British Transport Police Authority.
