Fisheye camera

by Mark Rowe

New from Hikvision is the DS-2CD6362F-I(S)(V) 6MP IR Fisheye Network camera. This 6MP IR Fisheye features a 1/1.8-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor to provide high-resolution images of up to 3072 x 2048, 30 frames per second (fps), and a 1.19 mm fisheye lens for a 360 degree panoramic view.

A 3 megapixel model of the wide dynamic range (WDR) fisheye camera is also available – the DS-2CD6332FWD-I(S)(V). This 3MP model features a one-third inch progressive scan CMOS sensor, 120 dB WDR (wide dynamic range), and streams video of up-to 1536 x 1536 resolution at 30 fps.

A single 6 or 3 megapixel IR fisheye camera does the work of multiple cameras, indoors and out, the makers say. Hikvision’s fisheye is designed to capture images from every corner of a site and eliminate blind spots with only its single camera. Both models come with infra-red, offering up-to 15m IR distance of visibility under low or even zero-light the Chinese company says. Applications the makers add include wide, open areas such as airports, shopping malls, parking lots, retail stores, offices, restaurants and classrooms. The housing unit and IP66 rating protect the camera against outdoor rain and dust, and allows it to withstand temperatures ranging from minus 30 degrees C to 60 degrees C.

The 6MP/3MP IR fisheye camera supports several viewing modes, including the 360 degrees overview (in 6 megapixel resolution and 3 megapixel resolution, respectively), a horizontal panoramic view, PTZ quad window, and PTZ multi-window modes. Customers can also use this PTZ to easily zoom, and focus, on any region of interest (ROI).

Compression formats

MJPEG and H.264 video compression formats are supported. These cameras feature multiple H.264 compression profiles, allowing users to make best bandwidth and storage without compromising image quality, it’s claimed. By supporting ONVIF, PSIA, and CGI standards, both fisheye models offer the ability to integrate with other video equipment.

Other features include a built-in micro SD/SDXC slot (with a total capacity of up to 64GB), a DI/DO interface to connect to alarm devices for further security control purposes, and an inbuilt audio intercom for two-way communication.

Hikvision has also launched a fisheye with IP PTZ Dome, which provides a panoramic’s 360 degree surround view while offering the view of a speed dome.
