A case study of Bombeiros do Estado de São Paulo, a fire department in the Brazilian city of São Paulo.
Recently, a security plan was devised for the overall security of the fire department. In part it was to upgrade the security system to not only improve the monitoring of external areas and the main entrance, but support stationed guards in making their virtual rounds, decrease the risk of attacks, and record daily activity outside the department.
The regional product distributor Bellfone Distributor and local security installer Invert Systems were commissioned. VIVOTEK cameras were the choice of the distributor and
systems installer among numerous market-available brands. Alpha-Digi, VIVOTEK’s national distributor in Brazil, supports system integrators’ equipment procurement. Some 44 VIVOTEK cameras were installed, namely the IP8332, IP8335H, and FD8136 models.
The project began in March 2014, installing 11 of the IP8332 models, pictured, 28 of the IP8335H models, and five of the FD8136 models in and around the department. The IP8335H network bullet camera has an HD WDR (wide dynamic range) CMOS sensor for use in difficult light conditions. The WDR Pro feature of the camera uses a double shutter technique to capture the dark and bright regions of an image, which are then combined. The two frames are then combined to generate a highly realistic image. In short, the IP8335H is suitable the makers say for high contrast places such as parking lots for fire-fighting service cars in this case.
The IP8332 camera features a removable IR-cut filters and IR illuminators that are effective up to 15m. The camera is housed in a weatherproof casing, allowing it to withstand harsh or unstable weather, suitable it is claimed for a variety of outdoor uses that require open angles. This model was deployed in numerous outdoor and patio areas around the department, and in the basement. And the FD8136 is a quite small network fixed dome camera. This model features Power over Ethernet (PoE), and selectable focal lengths, which
makes the model suitable for compact or enclosed spaces such as lifts.
To centralise and manage video at the fire department, VIVOTEK’scentral management software VAST was fitted. With intuitive functions the 44 cameras are managed in a hierarchical system structure, enabling the monitoring, recording, playback and event trigger management. Stationed guards now have access to a layout of the department from the monitoring room, making it easier to identify the weak points where patrols should be reinforced.
