Cyber talk

by Mark Rowe

A cloud security company, will be speaking at the Bloomberg & Talis Capital Cyber Security Event in London on Tuesday, October 27. CensorNet chief executive officer, Ed Macnair, will discuss how the increased adoption of cloud applications is driving the evolution of web security to extend beyond traditional web security, content filtering and malware protection, to enable management and analysis of user access to cloud applications.

Macnair says: “CIOs are under immense pressure to gain the cost and productivity benefits of the cloud. They are being asked to support company and employee owned devices, while also being responsible for maintaining the organisation’s security and compliance status. They need visibility into the use of cloud applications and understand the risk they present. The increase in the number of organisations using cloud applications is accelerating the requirement for CIOs to extend existing web security and content filtering policies to different devices as well as manage, analyse and control access to cloud applications. However, existing web security solutions address either web security or cloud application control requirements – but not both.

The availability and ease of deploying cloud applications has increased the incidence of users using unauthorised applications to access and process corporate data, the cloud firm suggests. In addition, more and more employees are using in their own devices to access, process and store corporate information. The presentation will discuss how security solutions need to evolve in a changing digital world to deliver in-depth discovery capabilities and detailed analytics around cloud applications use while at the same time still provide robust security to protect against web-borne threats.

Macnair says: “In order to cope with the increased use of cloud applications in the workplace, protect from inappropriate web content and maintain robust protection from web-borne malware, organisations must look at web security solutions that also offer cloud application control functionality. We recognised our customers’ need and are the first web security vendor to offer secure web gateway and cloud application control functionality in one single solution.”

Vasile Foca, Director at Talis Capital adds: “Talis Capital is delighted to bring together key industry participants for this Cyber Security and Insurance event. Building on a core investment theme, the event will facilitate an open discussion between cyber security providers, insurers and customers on the key challenges facing enterprises today. Ed Macnair is well placed to lead the discussion on the underserved SME market, drawing upon CensorNet’s particular focus on cloud application control.”
