At Information Security Solutions Europe (ISSE), the interdisciplinary security conference and exhibition, Information Systems Security Officer for the Electrabel GDF-Suez generation department, Franky Thrasher, will present ‘Industrial Control System (ICS) security risk management’. ISSE 2015 runs in Berlin on November 10 and 11.
One of the key aspects to getting funding for enhancing cyber security in industrial controls systems is being able to demonstrate the risk level to management. Too often the excuse of “We have never had a problem before” is used to not do anything. Often cybersecurity professionals use classic risk management approaches which is not always appropriate to demonstrate risk in industrial controls systems. Most risk based approaches are designed to target financial loss risks
On November 10, at 3pm, Mr Thrasher will present what his organisation has developed in terms of risk management for ICS systems. He says: “I will make parallels between classic risk management and industrial based risks. I will also give some return on experience as this technique has been used in Belgian nuclear power plants.”
Mr Thrasher specialises in industrial control system security and has developed and implemented a cyber-security program dedicated to critical infrastructure, namely both nuclear power plants in Belgium along with all the companies gas fired, coal and combined heat cycle power plants.
