CISOs speak in Monaco

by Mark Rowe

More than 300 participants and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) heard presentations from existing and former UK and US government officials, on fast-moving cybercriminal activity across the globe. Candid views were unveiled and shared with delegates attending the second edition of Cyber Security Connect UK (CSC UK), a forum for cybersecurity in Monaco earlier this month. CISOs represented a range of industry sectors including finance, retail, legal and government agencies. Delegates attended more than 550 one-to-one meetings to assess their current challenges, as well as gathering industry insight from 40 authoritative workshops and presentations discussing the current cybersecurity trends and challenges.

Commenting on the unique aspect of CSC UK, Ameet Jugnauth, Head of IT Risk and Governance at Lloyds Banking Group said: “Extremely valuable conference which is different compared to others. Amazing networking opportunities with counterparts and vendors with no hard sell and actually really good conversations about what we can do to help improve overall.”

Topics at the event included cyber resilience, securing the supply chain, benchmarking the CISO, cyber incident management and developing the next generation of cyber talent. Speeches were delivered by Dominic Fortescue, Director General of the Government Security Group and Government Chief Security Officer of the Cabinet Office, who covered ‘The concept of cyber resilience as a model for moving forward’; Adenike Cosgrove, Cybersecurity Strategy, EMEA of Proofpoint and Andrew Rose, Senior VP, Chief Security Officer for Mastercard spoke about ‘Why cybercriminals know more about your employees that you do’, plus Jon Green, VP and Chief Technologist for Security at Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company, who took to the stage in the session ‘Zero Trust: Hype, or the Future of Networks?’.

Lee Cramp, Head of Information Security at British Red Cross, said it was the “best security event in the year and the only event where the supplier, partner and the user are all together, learning and sharing their knowledge to breakdown the challenges we all face in the cybersecurity arena.”

Delegates enjoyed case studies in high-level partner workshops, including from Forescout Technologies on Lloyds Banking Group, ‘Cutting through complexity to gain 100pc endpoint visibility’; from Zscaler UK Ltd on ‘How the democratisation of IT is introducing new security risk’ and from Vectra on ‘AI in Security Operations – What have we learned so far?’.

Aurore Domange, Event Director at Cyber Security Connect UK 2019, said: “The second edition of Cyber Security Connect UK has been a huge success. We feel privileged to be able to bring together an audience of such a high calibre, which contributes to the unique collaborative forum. Learning, networking and doing business in this exclusive setting is a proven safe environment for CISOs to set the agenda for the year ahead. With CISOs attending across industries, this presents the opportunity for peer-to-peer engagement at a high-level and find solutions to issues that are experienced across the sector.”

And Martin Smith, Chairman of the event and founder of the SASIG info-sec forum, added: “We were delighted to have once again present world-class keynotes, roundtables and workshops to our guests and to receive the resounding feedback from delegates on their one-to-one meetings with some of Europe’s top vendors and suppliers to discuss their specific challenges and requirements. It is these qualities that are the greatest and most beneficial differentiators between this event and all other UK conferences and trade shows.”
