The British Museum: Operations: Head of Security and Visitor Services. Full-time, permanent. £57,902 – £66,512 per annum depending on experience and skills.

Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history. Visitors can travel the world and experience the collections from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and the ancient world, including iconic objects such as the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, the Lewis Chessmen and Egyptian mummies. We receive around six million visitors a year and are the UK’s top visitor attraction. The range of activity is impressive: examples of projects include our tremendously well-received and popular radio series A History of the World in 100 Objects; an ongoing £135m building project to construct new exhibition spaces, conservation studios and provide high quality storage for the most vulnerable parts of our collection; and a wealth of projects in collaboration with partners locally, nationally and across the globe.

With the remit of overseeing all security and visitor services activities in the British Museum, as Head of Security and Visitor Services you will be responsible for leading and motivating the visitor services and security departments, ensuring high levels of service are provided. Alongside the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and delivering appropriate long-term strategies for these areas and will provide security related and threat assessment advice to senior managers across the organisation.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will also have a security qualification along with experience of working in senior management role in a security related environment. A proven leader with people management experience, you will have skills in security risk assessment, physical security planning, and health and safety legislation. Management experience in a cultural organisation is desirable.
