Double awards

by Mark Rowe

An event security contractor gained double awards in February, winning Best Security Company at the Event Production Awards and Favourite Crowd Management Company at the TPi Awards, on February 5 and 11.

Showsec’s work on cultural, music and sporting events last year included the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, BT London Live, Athletes Medal Parade and Paralympic Marathon, besides regional projects and venue work managed by the company’s UK offices.

The team was awarded Best Security Company at the Event Show Production Awards, voted for by a panel of events luminaries. The award marks Showsec’s venue security and crowd management work at some 450 venues ranging from Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, festivals including Download and Camp Bestival, and sport from Manchester City Football Club’s Ethiad Stadium to Bournemouth Sevens rugby tournament. They were voted Favourite Crowd Management Company by readers of Total Production magazine and presented their second award in 2013 by BBC Radio 6 DJ Lauren Laverne at The Novotel Hammersmith, with 1000 guests from the events sector.

Showsec managing director Mark Harding says: “It is pleasing that we have earned wide recognition across all strands of the industry. Every member of Showsec, from security operatives, stewards, management, support and administrative staff has contributed to the achievements. The company’s ongoing expansion in venue, festival, sport, conference and exhibition work has demonstrated the outstanding capability and strength in depth within our teams across the UK.

“Underpinning the success is the significant investment in our unique management development programme, and our clients are reaping the benefits of the new generation of crowd managers. Last year was a record year for the company, and our recent ISO 9001 accreditation and SIA ACS record score reflects our commitment to optimise performance. These awards further highlight the phenomenal efforts, dedication and combined professionalism at Showsec. With a number of new projects on the horizon, we are committed to setting new benchmarks in the industry.”
