Securitas at IFSEC

by Mark Rowe

Crime scene guarding, fire crew capability and Securitas Telephone and Reception Services (STARs) are to be showcased during IFSEC 2014, from June 17 to 19 by Securitas Security Services (UK) Ltd.

The Emergency Fire Crew Capability (EFCC, pictured) is one of Securitas’s specialist guarding services. Comprising a unit of around 200 personnel, the EFCC provides contingency cover to the London Fire Brigade.

Trained officers have supported London Fire Brigade with nine deployments since September 2013 during industrial action, with the unit mobilised within six days’ notice.

Ron Dobson, Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade, believes the EFCC provides a readied, skilled and dedicated unit. He says: “Securitas works in partnership with us to offer a model that best fits what we require as the UK’s largest fire and rescue service. As Commissioner, I am responsible for providing a fire and rescue function to cover the whole of London, which is the seat of Government and has a number of iconic buildings. I need to ensure a service will be met under all circumstances, and I know Securitas won’t let me down.”

IFSEC delegates can also learn about the specialist Securitas crime scene guards used by forces including Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, and Avon and Somerset. Amid a climate of public sector austerity, the security contractor says that it delivers crime scene support for up to 75 per cent less than it would cost police, whilst also freeing up warranted officers for other duties. Securitas report that they can man a crime scene within four hours’ notice. Avon and Somerset Police Detective Superintendent Mike Courtiour says: “The benefit is when you have a [crime] scene, you push the buttons and know there is capacity, you know the people are going to arrive. For me it has been a win-win situation.”

The firm will also showcase Securitas Telephone and Reception Services (STARS). Developed for corporate businesses, it provides ‘brand ambassadors’. Personnel are recruited to a specific brief and can offer support across first aid, switchboard, access control, fire evacuation and reception.

Securitas staff will be on hand at IFSEC at stand D100 to provide further details on all services.
