A door supervisor was found working illegally in checks at licensed premises in Leeds city centre on Friday night, July 12.
West Yorkshire Police led the operation with support from Security Industry Authority (SIA) investigators and officers from Leeds City Council Licensing Team.
The multi-agency operation was conducted to ensure that door staff were working legally by holding a valid SIA licence, and to ensure that operatives were adhering to licence conditions. In total, 12 licensed premises and 21 door staff were checked. One was found working with an expired SIA licence; enquiries into this offence are on-going. A further warning was issued to a door supervisor for not properly displaying his licence.
The authorities add that intelligence was gathered on a door supervisor working without a valid SIA licence, and an investigation is pending.
SIA Head of Investigation Nigel Davies said afterwards: “The SIA is always pleased to be part of these multi-agency operations. It is important that the strong partnership relationship between the SIA, WYP and LCC is maintained for the safety of the public.”
And the head of the City Neighbourhood Policing Team, Insp Richard Clarke said: “Ensuring that licensees and door staff are complying with SIA laws is an important part of our work to keep people safe in the city’s night time economy. We will continue to work closely alongside the SIA to conduct similar operations in the future.”
