ALCA NETWORK and ALLNET were responsible for the project design and partnered with VIVOTEK, the Taiwanese provider of networked video security products, on a smart surveillance solutions in the Brazilian city of Maringรก. Integrated are cameras, facial and license plate recognition, and Big Data technologies. By consolidating data from the municipal, state, and federal sectors, the aim is to increase the safety of residents.
While Maringรก has one of the highest Human Development Indexes (HDI) in Brazil, the city government and security agencies saw a need for smarter security measures. โThe Public Safety Department initially aimed to capture and analyze video data to support decision-making in cases such as drug trafficking, vehicle theft, tax fraud, and the protection of women and minors at risk,โ says Security Secretary Ivan Quartaroli.
VIVOTEK was chosen by ALCA NETWORK and ALLNET. The implementation of Maringรกโs Integrated Control Center (CCI) began in July 2022, pictured, with strategically positioned cameras installed in accordance with the cityโs public safety guidelines.
The cameras come with video analytics processing technology and software with facial and license plate recognition capabilities. This uses Big Data to cross-reference captured information, to aid streamlined processing and provide analytics for decision-making. Some 70 VIVOTEK cameras supplied by ALLNET were installed in key locations around the city, including transport terminals, major avenues, squares, high-traffic intersections and public corridors.
CCI Maringรก has led to a notable reduction in crime rates such as car thefts and an increased sense of security among residents. The monitoring by CCI allows officers to identify suspicious activity and alert nearby law enforcement. VIVOTEKโs advanced imaging technology supports crime prevention and investigation and serves as evidence in legal proceedings.
Acting Mayor Ulisses Maia said: โThis investment is capable of protecting the law-abiding citizens of Maringรก, preventing all types of accidents that can happen in our city.โ
