IP over coax

by Mark Rowe

The ECO Plug from CCTV distributors Aasset Security provides the transmission codec as a separate SFP plug to the camera head. This allows IP transmission over coax cable, fibre or CAT5 twisted pair depending on the Eco Plug variant. This patented solution is integrated to the camera head and allows IP cameras to be substituted to analogue systems using existing cable and providing the distributor says a cost saving in transition to IP. As sites develop and structured cable or fibre is made available, cameras can then be migrated with a ECO Plug change to the appropriate medium. Similarly the product allows existing analogue cameras to be replaced with IP over coax, while new IP camera locations can be added on CAT5 or fibre as a coax-CAT5-fibre mix. The product is available in static dome, PTZ and and box camera variants.
