Locks for data centre racks

by Mark Rowe

Excel Networking Solutions, the copper, optical cabling and rack product company, has launched a new range of Environ Lock Solutions with Southco and Entertech.

The stand-alone and networkable products can be integrated with access control systems, BMS (building management systems) and biometrics and all work on the range of Environ tacks.

The makers say that the products bring intelligence and monitoring to the lock level of a data rack, giving a user control of access to the services and equipment within a comms room or data centre, making it suitable it is claimed for co-location deployments and remote locations where only authorised access is permissible.

Tracey Calcutt, marketing manager said: ‘The new Environ Lock Solutions add the next level of security to any Environ rack installation and we’ve chosen to work with industry leaders Southco, who have a proven track record and a fantastic reputation with regards to the quality of their products. Where biometrics is required we are working with Entertech/Digitus to complete the solution.

‘As with the whole ethos behind the Excel brand, giving customers a choice is imperative and it certainly isn’t a one solution fits all when it comes to the locks, the range covers RFID Intelligent, Biometric Intelligent, Standalone Combination Lock, Standalone RFiD Lock and the solution also integrates with the ISONAS access control system, Bio Connect and the Excel Intelligent PDUs as well as other 3rd party systems through an integration kit.

‘We believe that the Environ Lock Solutions will be specifically relevant for the data centre market, particularly where co-location deployments are required; however wherever any extra security is required for any Environ Rack installation there is a lock solution to meet every requirement.’ Visit www.excel-networking.com.
