Network recorder

by Mark Rowe

D-Link at IFSEC introduced its JustConnect standalone multi-functional network video recorder (DNR-2060-08P), designed to power end-to-end IP for small business users such as offices, retail outlets or boutique hotels.

Surveillance is accessible to users with little or no technical knowledge, according to the firm. Users can ‘just connect’ up to eight IP cameras, requiring zero configuration and no need for other switches or a PC, it is claimed. Users can manage options, for example, to set scheduled or event-driven recording schedules, adjust camera focus, and export video footage for evidential purposes. Features include motion detection, which triggers recording when motion is sensed.

Users can remotely monitor their CCTV network in real-time through the JustConnect+ mobile app for smart phones or tablets. Business owners can view live video or play back recorded footage, at anytime, when connected to the Internet.

Andrew Mulholland, Business Solutions Manager at D-Link UK & Ireland said: “JustConnect brings comprehensive surveillance capabilities to users with any level of technical knowledge. It’s a unique product in terms of ease and speed of set-up for installers. At the same time, this is the first time SMBs can gain access to a comprehensive IP surveillance solution with remote management functionality, at such a competitive price point.

“D-Link is quickly growing in the IP surveillance business, as consumer demand increases. Small business owners may previously have been discouraged by the cost and complexity involved in the installation of other NVR products. D-Link has brought its expertise in IP surveillance to JustConnect™, responding to SMBs’ needs for an affordable, comprehensive IP surveillance solution.”

Besides cameras, JustConnect requires only a standard SATA hard drive for storage, and an HDMI or VGA monitor for display. The product automatically sets up various networks protocols for the installer, including IP addresses and Quality of Service (QoS).

Cameras can be installed using only an ethernet network cable, as opposed to both the coaxial and power cables required for analogue cameras. This adds to D-Link’s range of Power over Ethernet (PoE)-compliant IP Surveillance camera.
