PoE extenders

by Mark Rowe

The Taiwanese network surveillance product company VIVOTEK has launched three new PoE (Power over Ethernet) extenders: the four-port indoor PoE extender, AP-FXC-0400; the single-port outdoor PoE extender, AP-FXC-0150, pictured; and two-port outdoor PoE extender, AP-FXC-0250.

For CCTV over long distances, cable length and power supply are always the challenges for installers. Given the limitations of data-transfer over Ethernet, the previous maximum distance between a PoE switch and network cameras was 100m, the maker say. However, with these new PoE extenders, installers can now build wider networks while maintaining reliability, it’s claimed.

The four-port AP-FXC-0400 is said to be suitable for a wall mount application. With one PoE-In port and four PoE-Out, the extender can connect with a high power PoE switch at the back-end while connecting with four network cameras at the front. All connections may add up to 100m of connectivity to the existing network.

The AP-FXC-0150 supports one PoE-Out while the AP-FXC-0250 supports two PoE-Out. Both can endure a temperature range between minus 20 degrees and plus 60 degrees C. Visit: www.vivotek.com.
