The British manufacturer of woven and welded mesh fencing systems, Zaun, opened up their factory to police Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) from various forces across England and Wales recently. A DOCO’s role is to provide specialist security advice and guidance about the built environment at every stage of the design process, from pre-planning to the full development control process, to minimise the potential for crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour. DOCOs are recommended as a source of assistance by the UK official National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) – previously the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI).
Zaun supplies a range of perimeter, security and sports fencing, gate and HVM solutions for a variety of sectors from schools and playgrounds to prisons and Ministry of Defence sites; and you can still see the fencing it provided for the London Olympic Park for the 2012 Games.
Attending the days at Zaun were officers from Cheshire, Staffordshire, Cambridgeshire, West Mercia, Dyfed Powys, North Police, Warwickshire and West Midlands, plus representatives from the UK police security scheme, Secured by Design (Zaun is a member company).
Hazel Goss of Secured by Design said: “I wish to thank Zaun for holding our Awareness Days, both events have had such positive feedback from all that have attended, gaining extra knowledge and understanding in what makes such fantastic products. I attended the first day and had such a great time with excellent presentations and factory tour, learning so much followed by a wonderful lunch.”
