Electronic handles for apartments

by Mark Rowe

A case study of the access control system fitted to apartments in Barnstaple in Devon. Cleave Point, built by the Newland Homes Builders and owned by Cleave Point Management Company Limited, offers an exclusive purpose-built development of 24 stylish apartments, in the valley of the River Taw.

However, access to the premises was becoming harder to restrict to residents with the existing locks. The property owners contacted local Mul-T-Lock dealer Keyhole Surgery.

That locksmith suggested installation of Mul-T-Lock’s Smartair electronic handle as an all in one solution that could provide access control.

Thedirectors at Cleave Point Management Company Limited said: “Smartair appealed to us because of its design and would complement the property’s security. Its ability to operate as a standalone solution was also a great feature as no hardwiring or modification to the door was required. Smartair was installed with no disruption and residents have found it really easy to use. From a management perspective, access for maintenance staff is equally simple to grant or deny, saving us valuable time and resource that we can now utilise to further enhance our property and offerings.” Cont/d…

A battery-powered unit, Smartair is described by the makers as a standalone solution that is installed to existing locks and key systems, reducing the inconvenience of hardwiring a full access system.

David Pearcy of Keyhole Surgery said: “When the directors contacted me to recommend a security solution, I had no hesitation in suggesting Smartair because of its adaptability to suit any accommodation and offer instant access control. Its features make it a simple and intelligent way of upgrading the controllability and security level of any premises, whilst also solving key management issues, without compromising on aesthetics or style.”

With Smartair installed and programmed, cards or fobs can be added, amended or removed with an optional shadow card to enable users to delete operators one-by–one, in a change of home ownership.

Ian Thresher, Mul-T-Lock Regional Sales Manager added: “Smartair was specifically designed to overcome many of the obstacles traditionally associated with access control systems, as an intelligent device with ease of use at the heart of its design. When this is combined with its stylish finish and ease to install, programme and use, it is obvious to see why it is the perfect solution for property developments such as Cleave Point apartments.” Visit www.mul-t-lock.co.uk.
