MLA Expo nears

The trade body the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) is hosting a trade exhibition for the locksmithing and physical security sector. It runs at the International Centre in Telford from October 2-4.

The theme of this year’s MLA Expo is ‘Tomorrow’s Locksmithing Today’ to help encourage and develop a future generation to the historic profession. Nearly 100 exhibitors have already signed up to the biennial event, which sees locksmiths and suppliers from across the world exhibit products and services, discuss industry trends and attend training courses. MLA development director Dr Steffan George said: “It is a truly global exhibition involving people from within the locksmithing industry, and it is the biggest Expo ever in this its 18th incarnation. It is one of the most anticipated events in the security industry calendar, and provides a fantastic opportunity for locksmith and security companies and professionals from around the world to come together. They can showcase their products and services, network, share knowledge and make new contacts.”

Police, insurance industry and Neighbourhood Watch will also be at the sold-out event, plus newly qualified apprentices. ASSA ABLOY – the supplier of locks and security products – joined forces with the MLA and Skills for Security – the skills body for the security industry – to support an apprenticeship scheme. The locksmith apprenticeship was set up in January 2014 with a view to generating the first nationally recognised qualification for the locksmith sector, as well as encouraging more young people to consider locksmithing.
