PIR detectors

by Mark Rowe

OPTEX has launched the next in its BoundaryGard VX-402 series of outdoor passive infra-red (PIR) detectors, the VX Infinity (VXI). The new series offers nine models including hard-wired and wireless options. For the first time dual technology and anti-masking models are also available.

The VXI employs OPTEX SMDA (Super Multi-Dimension Analysis) logic that the company says reduces false alarm rates while maintaining a high catch performance. The makes say that SMDA improves immunity against various noise factors such as weather changes and vegetation sway and will compare targets to several hundred detection scenarios. This enables the detector to distinguish between body temperature and noise, thus according to the company reducing false and missed alarms. The new range also offers more flexibility in defining the detection area to avoid over-ranging. All the intrusion detection sensors come with five pre-configured detection patterns. The more advanced feature versions, VXI-AM (anti-masking) and VXI-DAM (PIR/MW and anti-masking) models use active infrared anti-masking to signal a trouble or tamper alarm if the optical system has been sabotaged.

The dual technology models provide a self-learning control to continually adapt the detector’s sensitivity to the site changes, allowing the product to be installed in the most challenging conditions where catch performance is still imperative, it is claimed. The VX Infinity battery-operated models are also available with a pre-fitted Inovonics wireless transmitter as part of OPTEX iSeries wireless range.

Takuya Okamoto, Managing Director for OPTEX Europe says: “With a total of nine wired and wireless models in the new VX Infinity series of PIR detectors, installers now have a wider choice to meet the needs of even the most demanding installations with a technology that is proven, reliable and best-in-class.”
