Synchronised video and audio

by Mark Rowe

A new universal HD decoder from the Dutch firm Siqura delivers synchronised video and audio for security system displays.

The compact S620 D decoder streams video on two separate monitors complete with stereo audio. H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 video streams from IP cameras or encoders can be displayed in any resolution including 720p and 1080p. Siqura says that its universal HD decoder is designed for retail spot monitors, and “public” monitor and control room video wall applications within security systems. It produces two video streams, each capable of driving 1920 x 1080 pixel, widescreen, HDMI monitors and displaying images from up to 10 cameras simultaneously. A compact design, it’s 101 x 101.6 x 50.8 mm.

The HD decoder will produce two Full HD 1080p30, or four 720p30, H.264 video streams in addition to multiple lower resolution streams such as D1 and CIF. Multi-codec support, including MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264 compression formats, makes the decoder suitable for most CCTV applications. Both video outputs come with lip-synchronized, stereo audio.

The hardware platform is based on a third generation, Core i3 central processor unit (CPU). Not only does this enable the decoder to produce dual, Full HD video streams, but the platform also allows the firm to take advantage of newer and faster CPUs as INTEL develops them. In addition to the ONVIF NVD implementation, the decoder offers a REST API interface for remote control and integration.
