Authentication solution

by Mark Rowe

New from the identity security product firm HID Global is its WorkforceID Authentication solution, the latest addition to its cloud platform for creating a seamless, effortless experience for issuing, managing and using identity credentials in physical and digital workplaces. Workforce ID Authentication builds upon HID’s multi-factor authentication platform for consumer applications including online and mobile banking. It joins the company’s employee ID badging, visitor management and other trusted workforce identity products.

Julian Lovelock, VP Global Business Segment, IAM, with HID Global said: “A person’s identity has become the new security perimeter in a hybrid workplace that now extends from home to the office and everywhere in between. The addition of multi-factor authentication to the HID WorkforceID platform advances our vision of a unified and flexible approach to identity and access management for an organisation’s employees, partners and contractors. This is the next step in providing a suite of applications that manage digital and physical identity credentials through one convenient cloud platform.”

The WorkforceID Authentication solution enables users to extend a streamlined and secure login experience to users and applications throughout an enterprise, the developers say. It integrates with Microsoft’s on-premise Active Directory (AD) or cloud-based Azure AD. The platform allows integration with cloud-based, on-premise, or hybrid legacy applications, as well as enterprise technology including Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for remote login.

As for authentication you can use HID ActivIDTM one time password tokens and security keys, smart cards, and the HID Approve mobile app that enables users to authenticate to applications and deny fraudulent login attempts via their phone. The product offers standards-based security: according to the international standard for information security management ISO 27001, and it’s besides SOC2-certified, and EU GDPR-compliant. And as for the user experience, it features self-service tasks for setting up authentication methods.

The developers say that the product extends what HID calls its broader authentication ecosystem that includes its credential offering and WorkforceID Digital Credential Manager for managing workforce authenticators used for physical and digital access.
