Offenders are at the top of Greater Manchester Police’s Christmas card list this year, with 47 festive cards being issued across the Metropolitan division to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
Thieves, burglars and those under the restriction of ASBOs will be targeted with warning messages, advising them that officers will be stepping up their campaign over Christmas to bring offenders to justice.
Inside the cards, which display the message "Enjoy Christmas at home and not behind bars", will be a letter from the Divisional Commander explaining that those who break ASBO or bail conditions will spend Christmas in custody.
The joint Operation Hawk and Magpie campaign will also see extra officers out on patrol throughout Christmas and New Year targeting offenders in hotspot areas, while aiming to increase public reassurance.
Chief Superintendent David Thompson, Metropolitan Divisional Commander, said: "Evidence shows that offenders are at their most active during Christmas and these cards will hopefully act as a deterrent."
"By increasing police presence on the streets of our local communities and issuing these Christmas cards, we hope to make sure that local residents and businesses enjoy a safer and crime-free Christmas." Offenders can expect cards to start arriving from Monday December 20 and the campaign will continue into the New Year. This is just one of many initiatives running under Operations Hawk and Magpie across the force to help reduce street crime and burglary, say GMP.
