A sixth edition of the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds, commonly known as the Green Guide, is to be brought out by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA).
First published in 1973, the Green Guide has become a world-leading guidance for the safety of spectators at sports grounds, says the SGSA, and it is used by stadium safety and security managers to inform the design and management of sports grounds around the world.
The current edition published in 2008, will be reviewed and updated to reflect the latest research, changes in technology and understanding of safety of sports grounds, says the regulator, the former Football Licensing Authority.
The guide will reflect the developments in safety management and stadia design brought about through advances in computer software, it will advise on current fan behaviours and will reflect current issues through its guidance on counter terrorism. It will also seek to harmonise advice with emerging CEN standards relating to spectator facilities and will further reinforce the guidance as a tool for all sports with sports grounds.
The two-year project, led by northern SGSA inspector Ken Scott will begin in January 2016 with an initial consultation period with partners and stakeholders. The sixth edition is expected to be on the bookshelves at the end of 2017.
