Webinar on SIA training changes

by Mark Rowe

As featured in the February and March print editions of Professional Security magazine, the UK regulator the Security Industry Authority (SIA) is bringing in extra training requirements, for badge holders, whether renewing or taking out licences for the first time. That requirement for top-up training, notably for door staff and contract security guards, is a first in the 15 years of the SIA regime.

Hence a free Zoom webinar by the exam awarding body SFJ Awards, to brief training centres of the new Quality Assurance requirements for the re-launched SIA licence-linked qualifications. SFJ will update you on the key changes to the assessment and subject content, so that you are prepared to deliver these qualifications. The subject of the new quality assurance requirements for internal quality assurers and trainers will also be addressed. The aim; to make trainers feel confident in delivering these new qualifications in the right way, on time – the extra training can be given from April, and must be done from October 1.

If you cannot attend the webinar live, from noon on March 11, you can register anyway and listen to it afterwards, say organisers.

Among the speakers are Tracey Lilley, Senior Manager – Quality & Standards at the SIA; former G4S trainer Jane Hodder, now External Quality Assurer and owner, JLH Training; and at SFJ, Paul Kelly, Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager. You can sign up on the SFJ Awards website.

More details about the new requirements at the SIA website; for training providers; and for licence applicants and licence holders. See also the interview with Steve McCormick of the SIA in the March print edition of the magazine. Briefly, the main changes are that the SIA has brought in a requirement for a first aid qualification (one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course, or equivalent); and training in terrorism threat awareness.
