Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services | Leeds
An established building services consultancy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Leeds design team. You’ll lead the mechanical design of technically complex building projects, including healthcare refurbishments and new builds.
The role would suit an experienced engineer who enjoys hands-on design and wants to take on more project leadership, client contact and mentoring responsibilities. Experience designing specialist ventilation systems would be particularly valuable, although applications from other technically demanding sectors are welcome.
The role
- Develop mechanical design strategies, concepts and detailed solutions.
- Produce calculations, drawings, schematics, specifications and schedules.
- Design systems that meet relevant standards, building regulations, energy efficiency and low carbon requirements.
- Lead the mechanical delivery of projects, coordinating with electrical engineers and the wider design team.
- Review other engineers’ work and mentor junior colleagues.
- Manage design progress, quality and project fees.
- Work directly with clients to understand briefs and present technical solutions.
About you
You’ll have substantial mechanical building services design experience and the confidence to lead projects and explain your design decisions to clients and colleagues. You’ll also bring strong technical knowledge, attention to detail and an understanding of how mechanical systems fit into the wider building design.
A relevant engineering degree or HNC/HND is sought. Chartered Engineer status, or progress towards it, would be welcome. Experience with design and modelling tools such as Hevacomp, IES or AutoCAD would be useful.
