Roy's Monthly Gossip

ST Manchester

by Mark Rowe

Much to shout about at this hot and sunny time. I suppose we should start with the top gossip first and yes that is our friends over at COP who have been acquired I hear, by whom? None other than Videcon, apparently I am being told that they will trade separately and sell Dahua kit. The details are as of yet to be finalised so anything could happen, but it’s great to see all our friends over at COP not out of work. However, Michael Laurence the former MD from ADI who had recently joined them has left and joined Fortus as their Managing Director.

Let’s talk about those that have moved jobs, been promoted and moved into a new position. Gary James used to work with me at MVD many years ago; in fact he could be blamed for the reason I am at the magazine as we decided to run a roadshow in Woburn Abbey and James said we needed a magazine to support us and as he happened to know of one, he introduced me to Professional Security Magazine and the rest as you say is history. Anyway enough about me, Gary has moved to Barco where he is the UK and Ireland territory manager.

Dave Beech as you may know formerly Vista director for Norbain many years ago, has started with Giraffe CCTV as their sales director. Now they do mobile security units much like he used to sell! He told me that he had a great first week bringing in …. shall we just say a lot of money that’s covered his own salary for a few years to come. Mike Tolley has left BT and joined North the integrators as Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) – Defence and Justice. Mike had been with BT for just over three years. Likewise Barry Morgan has also joined North, as Safety and Security Senior Product Consultant. Michael Gallagher joins PDP Projects as the head of development and strategy. I wonder where Alison has gone. Daniel Frith has left CSE Crosscoms or DTS as we knew them, the radio comms people, and joined Axon, the body camera people, as their UK enterprise sales man. Mark Rainbow at APS, Advanced Perimeter Systems to give them their full title, tells me he has been promoted to head of business development, nice one Mark. Sam Atherton has joined Chubb Fire and Security – data centres as a BDM, you may remember her from Anixter where she was for almost six years. And talking of Chubb I see Ben Danby has also started as the new General Manager for North and the Midlands.

James Foxley starts a new position at the security engineering firm QCIC as a senior consultant, while in that kind of field Sara Forte joins Cundall as an associate security compliance and commercial manager. Phillip German has become a campaign marketing manager for the Elite Group. Charlotte Jones joined Todd Research in 2011 and this month has stepped into a new position as business development manager, good luck. Sarah Hills starts a new position as Vice President – OEM – Key accounts – EMEA strategy for Power Sonic, the battery company. Gabriel Hulcom has joined LenelS2 as a key account manager, don’t get those keys mixed up!? John O’Neill starts as a program manager at Novo Technologies. Talking of managing, did you know that Adam Whyley becomes the new MD at AI CCTV Systems? Kevin Swann starts as Global Strategy Director at Hochiki Corporation; Kevin continues as MD of Kentec, the fire detection product manufacturers. Martin Vermaak is the new Chief Operating Officer at ICT; and talking of COOs Ara Babayan has been appointed at Ipsotek an Eviden business and a provider of AI-powered video analytics.

Paul Cole starts as lead engineer at Marlow Fire and Security. and Joe Williams becomes an account manager for CloudPass. Ian Hardisty starts with Ajax as a BDM. Patricia Jones starts as a BDM for ADK Security. John Oliver joins HKC, you know, the alarm people, part of ASSA ABLOY, as Product Manager to shape the company’s future with new product innovation, they say. Wayne Barraclough has decided to go it alone and offer his consultancy knowledge to anyone that might be in need for some help, after all he has the experience. Likewise Barry Cattrall has started his own business called Black Catt, yes it has two Ts.

Meanwhile did you join us at Manchester last month, for the latest Security TWENTY show? We packed a lot into one day. Those of you that wanted, took a tour of United’s Old Trafford stadium. As I previewed last month, we had the usual exhibition of course with the free BBQ and free drinks, also we introduced our Innovation Stage (pictured is Janice McMahon of Steroplast demonstrating applying a first aid dressing, to volunteer Graham Dean of fellow exhibitor the BSIA) and our new Career zone. These worked really well; so much so that we will replicate that in Birmingham, Edgbaston cricket stadium to be exact. Please do get the date in your diary, Thursday, September 4, and if you want to exhibit let me know – email [email protected].
