BCM World conference

by Mark Rowe

What’s the difference between exploring and business continuity? The explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes will be discussing this very issue as he delivers his keynote address on ‘performing under extreme pressure’ at the BCM World Conference and Exhibition at the London Olympia on Wednesday, November 6.

From being the first person to circumnavigate the globe along its polar axis, to trekking unsupported across the Antarctic; from climbing Mount Everest, to completing seven marathons in seven days on seven continents; Sir Ranulph Fiennes was described by the Guinness Book of Records as the “world’s greatest living explorer.” Sir Ranulph has many tales to tell from a life filled with adventure and challenges, so much so that in 2000 the Daily Telegraph listed him as “one of the world’s top ten speakers.”

So what does exploring have to do with business continuity? Neither are just about the event, but the planning and preparation that goes into that event beforehand. Each is about ensuring that, should the worst happen, a drama does not escalate into a crisis.
