In a sign of how the police and the UK private security industry are working together, senior crime prevention officer in Northern Ireland, Det Insp Philip McCullough, opened the Gardiner Security new product forum in Belfast. He told the gathering of of 20 manufacturers at the Beechlawn House Hotel: ?It?s no secret that the number of officers in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has been reduced over the recent period, and that situation is unlikely to change. What we need is not just greater co-operation with the security industry, but for businesses and private individuals to take at least some degree of greater responsibility for their own property. For example, the changes to the ACPO policy on police response to monitored security systems are intended to reduce the number of false alarms we attend, with a new emphasis on confirmed alarm technology. Good partnership with manufacturers and suppliers is part of the answer ? encouraging installers to opt for suitable systems every time.? Det Insp McCullough was invited by Gardiner Security area manager Maurice Taggart. Exhibitors included ACT, Axis Communications, Bell Systems, Bewator, CDV, Morley, PAC International, Urmet Domus, Pulnix, Dedicated Micros, Philips, Sanyo, Baxall and Stortech; Derwent, Sony, VMS, C&K/Intellisense, Coopers, Elmdene, Optex, GJD, ADE and Pyronix.
