Corby Borough Council has appointed Remploy Managed Services to operate its CCTV service in a three- year contract that will see the service expand from six to eight workers.
Remploy reports that it now monitors over 50 towns and cities across Britain with a staff of 230. Leader of Corby Borough Council, Pat Fawcett, said, "We were impressed by the professionalism of the Remploy team and, in particular, by their emphasis on training and staff development. Our CCTV has made a valuable contribution to the long-term reduction of crime in Corby. It is fantastic that we have a system like this in the borough to improve public safety. And with over 3100 arrests directly attributable to the system, we know that it really makes a difference. CCTV plays an increasingly important part in ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Corby and it is imperative that we establish good relationships with service providers and employ the best teams available."
The three-year contract may be extended by two years. Remploy’s national CCTV manager, Tom Smith, said: "We are delighted at Corby Borough Council’s decision and we look forward to working with the council to provide a service that is tailored to the needs of Corby and its people. Our fully trained and licensed staff have already proved their worth in other parts of the country playing a significant role in both crime prevention and detection."
