Why spend time and therefore money drawing cables through a flexible conduit system? ask UK manufacturer, Adaptaflex, pointing to its new Korifit pre-wired flexible conduit systems that come with cables.
This leaves only the external run to fit and secure along with final connection to equipment. Its use offers speed of installation, the makers claim, with one operation to install conduit with cables.
The time-consuming operation of inserting the necessary cabling required to complete an installation is eliminated making the system a choice for contracts where tight deadlines have to be met to avoid costly penalties, according to the firm.
For ease of use during the installation the conduit is removed from the centre of the coil. Overall length of the cable run should be allowed for when initially cutting pre-wired conduit from the reel. Use a Kwikcut cutting tool on the conduit and wire cutters on the cable. The conduit can then be trimmed back exposing useable lengths of cables, the makers say. Korifit Pre-wired Conduit uses the full range of Korifit one-piece, push-on fittings, including straight, 90 degrees and straight one-piece couplers. This makes the operation of connecting and fixing to standard knockouts on control panels or distribution boards easy, it is claimed, with only the locknut to be fitted to secure the flexible conduit system, with cables, in position. On surface mounting applications it can be used with Adaptaflex conduit clips.
An additional feature is the pre-installed draw-wire for ease of installation of additional cables throughout the life time of the system. In general, the cable fill within the conduit is about 20 per cent, the makers claim, allowing ample capacity for extra cables as required. The draw wire is made of high tensile strength polyamide, eliminating snapping, according to the company.
Korifit Pre-Wired Conduits are available from stock in three sizes, 16mm, 20mm and 25mm, and come pre-wired in a selection of BASEC approved cable sizes: 3 x 1.5mm_, 3 x 2.5mm_ and 3 x 6mm_. All carry the new European standard colour identification. Available in 100 metre and 50 metre roll lengths, depending on conduit sizes, the rolls are shrunk wrapped in polyethylene film with access to conduit from the centre of the roll for storage. Manufactured to conform to EN 50086-2-2, the conduit is polypropylene, which is flame retardant, and when used with the Korifit range of fittings provides a system ingress protection rating of IP65.
Korifit Pre-Wired Conduit is suited, the makers say, for static use being ideal for burial in concrete, wiring protection and routing in light duty industrial and commercial applications where flexing is not a requirement. In the building and construction industry the system is suitable for new build electrical installations particularly on pre-fabricated building systems as well as refurbishments.
