Danes visit

by Mark Rowe

The Hampshire-based trainers Tavcom hosted a workshop for trainers from Denmark on March 21 at its base in Bishops Waltham as part of a nationwide itinerary designed for the visitors to learn first hand how the UK does security training.

The visit was jointly organised by UK based Skills for Security and the Danish Institute of Fire & Security (DBI) and was supported by EU funding. Among the ten visitors were representatives from the Police, installation companies and end-users, including the head of security for the Danish National Museum. All are involved in the security training, and were therefore keen to understand UK best practice in training.

Skills for Security, which is the UK’s Skills and Standards Setting Body and Issuing Authority for Apprenticeships within the Security Sector, has also successfully applied for EU funding to partner similar organisations to BDI in connection with vocational training in the security sector.

Mike Tennent, Managing Director of Tavcom, said: “We admire and share Skills for Security’s ambition to raise skill sets within the electronic security industry. We were therefore delighted to welcome the group from Denmark to our training centre and to have the opportunity to provide an overview on how we go about training security professionals in the UK. We are looking forward to welcoming a second group of visitors from Denmark in June, 2013.”
