IET re-accreditation

by Mark Rowe

Banham Academy reports that it has re-accreditation with the engineering body the IET; and another apprentice at the south London training centre, pictured, has reached Engineering Technician status.

This approval allows all apprentices through the Academy to apply for the Engineering Technician Registration, providing them with credentials for their careers and the letters ‘Eng Tech TMIET’ after their names. It provides employers with a competitive edge in the marketplace by their employees officially being recognised and accredited by the IET as engineering technicians, the Academy adds.

The Academy was the first provider in the sector approved by the IET for the content and delivery of their Fire, Emergency and Security Systems (FESS, as featured in the June edition of Professional Security magazine) Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship. After re-inspection, the academy has been awarded this internationally recognised accreditation for another three years.

Another academy apprentice, Gianluca Mori, has just received recognition and is now officially an Engineering Technician. The IET accredits apprenticeships delivered by organisations that have the potential to deliver the competencies required for professional registration. Registration, awarded by the Engineering Council, is only available to professional, competent technicians and engineers, and is recognised worldwide.

Kevin Faulkner, Head of Banham Academy, said: ‘This recognition reinforces the quality of the FESS Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship content. The apprenticeship created by employers within the sector is being recognised as one that contains learning outcomes which do not just meet the needs of the sector but is now benchmarked against the requirements of the IET. This incredibly important IET accreditation will mean our apprentices graduate with even more confidence and value as they embark on their careers as engineers. I am delighted for Gianluca in becoming an Engineering Technician and look forward to seeing his career go from strength to strength.’

And Sarah Odong, IET Accreditation Manager, said: ‘The IET has recently awarded Engineering Technician level accreditation to the Banham Academy, Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician (FESS) Scheme. The IET recognises that the programme has been effectively developed to address industry needs, academic standards and professional competencies.’
