You can now access a UK Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) endorsed register of protective security specialists, developed as part of new measures set out in response to the 2017 Manchester Arena terror attack.
If organisations or venues need counter terrorism protective security, preparedness advice, or technical implementation, the Security Specialists Register, available via the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES),ย nowย offersย access to a wide pool of verifiedย expertiseย across multiple disciplines.โฏย It is also now open to enquiries and expressions of interest to those wishing to join.
Senior National Coordinator for Protect and Prepare, Jon Savell, said: โOur highest mission is protecting people in the UK, and ensuring that businesses and organisations know how to keep their premises secure is a key part of that. This new register will empower organisations and venues to make informed decisions about protective security and preparedness though specialist advice by people who really understand this operating environment.
โIndustry feedbackย wasย very clearย thatย organisations want to be able to access professional and credible advice.ย CTP endorsesย RSESย because itย only accepts membership afterย vetting the competence of those seeking inclusion on the lists of specialists they hold.
โItโsย similar toย other more familiarย professional registers,ย ones that show your surgeon, accountant, or structural engineer is properly accredited.ย It means you can trust the advice ย youโreย being given is backed by us andย other experts.ย ย It provides that same reliable, peerโreviewed assurance for security specialists who have been rigorously and independently assessed.โ
The members of RSES included on the register are bound by a code of professional conduct.ย ย This will provide, say the authorities:
- access to trusted, competent specialists
- assurance that individuals meet recognised standards
- confidence that members are bound by a professional code of conduct
- a way to identify qualified counter terrorism protective security support.
The register forms one part of what’s required to make Martyn’s Law – the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, or the Protect Duty, a legal requirement for venues and events to take steps to counter the threat of terrorism. It follows the launch of another necessary part – an Ofqual qualification in Counter Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness as unveiled last month. Full details at the CT Policing website, here.ย Another ingredient is the statutory guidance released earlier this month by the Home Office, detail for ‘responsible persons’ towards compliance with the 2025 Act.
