Karting race for charity

by Mark Rowe

It is a tradition for ‘Team GJD’ to battle it out over a 1200m karting circuit for six hours once a year. It’s to help raise money for Down Syndrome Extra 21 charity (DSE21). This race is the main fund raising event of the year for DSE21 and in 2016 was at Buckmore Park, Kent on Saturday, May 28.

The event saw 28 teams battle it out in the endurance kart race. Some of the teams included Norbain and Beacon Alarms, who are both customers of the detection product company GJD. Richard Taylor from the Alarm Company Norwich also had a team which was sponsored by Enterprise Security Norwich. Neil Barber from Full Stop Fire & Security and his daughter Holly presented the trophies.

This year GJD raised £671.85 and the event in total raised £23,838.32. Team captain Paul Tibbenham (pictured) headed ‘Team GJD’ who finished 3rd. Paul said: “This annual fundraiser was another great success and it was a pleasure to participate in such a great cause.”

Greg Stuttle, Business Development Manager at GJD raced with his son Tom in team ‘Jeremy Kartson’, who finished fourth. Greg commented: “This event was an incredible achievement and I would like to thank everyone who was involved and it is truly appreciated by Down Syndrome Extra 21.”

Money raised goes to helping people with Down Syndrome to live full and rewarding lives. People can still donate to DSE21 via JustGiving, which is simple, fast and totally secure. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teamgjd2016
