British technology firms have raised concerns that the British Government’s wish to force technology companies to share encryption keys or provide government authorities with back-doors to their systems would be highly detrimental to British businesses and the economy.

The letter points out that the Joint Committee which is set to scrutinise the draft Investigatory Powers Bill must consider the effect on the growing tech industry in Britain if they can no longer be trusted by their customers. The letter reads, “By making us business partners who cannot be trusted by their users, the government places our reputation and future at risk.”
