360 degree fisheye

by Mark Rowe

New from Hanwha Techwin is the Samsung Wisenet 4K PNF-9010R, a 360 degree fisheye camera, pictured. The product offers 12 megapixel 360 degree images and comes with on-board dewarping. The fisheye offers a variety of viewing modes, including single panorama, double panorama and quad views. The PNF-9010R features licence-free on-board cameras heat mapping and people counting analytics. Such built in analytics will give users in retail, for example, people counting to measure store efficiency between footfall and actual sales and also identify busiest days, times and seasons to manage peaks and troughs of customer flow. The heatmapping feature can provide information about customer in-store behaviour, by displaying hotspots within a store to indicate customer buying patterns, including dwell times.

As is with all camera models in the Wisenet P camera series, the PNF-9010R features H.265 compression and WiseStream, a complementary compression technology which controls encoding, balancing quality and compression according to movement in the image. Bandwidth efficiency is improved by up to 75 per cent it is claimed compared to the current H.264 compression when WiseStream is combined with H.265 compression.

The fisheye comes with IR illuminators and bi-directional audio support, while a single push of a button at the back of the camera is all that is needed to automatically focus the camera via the ‘Simple Focus’ feature which can also be remotely accessed via the network.

A digital PTZ lets users electronically pan, tilt and zoom in on specific areas for a more detailed view and at the same time continuing to monitor the whole 360-degree view. It also offers privacy masking, a 12VDC and PoE (Power over Ethernet), and in the event of network disruption, video is automatically recorded to on-board SDXC storage so that potential video evidence is not lost. An M12 connector makes it an option for use on buses and trains where it can be used internally to monitor passenger activity, or externally, to monitor the road or track ahead.
