Cybersecurity threats ranked

by Mark Rowe

The technical body the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) has reported on its survey of over 300 CIOs and CTOs across the United States, UK and India. It found that cybersecurity threats ranked as the biggest challenge in 2017. The survey included findings on:

Device overload – with only 27 percent of CIOs/CTOs able to track and manage 76 percent or more of the devices connected to their business.

The top security concerns of CIOs and CTOs – cloud vulnerability (36 percent) and security issues related to employees bringing their own devices to work (31 percent).

Improving security posture – near all, 95 percent reporting that they feel better prepared to respond to a data breach compared to a year ago.

This survey is complemented by the IEEE Cybersecurity Vulnerability Navigator – an interactive resource that includes audio commentary and advice from IEEE members on the biggest security threats, including: compromised credentials, cross-site-scripting, data breaches, denial-of-service attacks, drones, malicious insiders, malware, ransomware and spear phishing.
