Golds for Compass

by Mark Rowe

Compass Group UK & Ireland, the UK catering and support services contract firm, gained seven gold medals across its sectors for their approach to occupational health and safety in a scheme run by accident prevention charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Chartwells, Levy Restaurants UK, Healthcare, the security contractor VSG and Instore, all gathered gold awards. ESS Defence and Government Services won two golds at the annual scheme. They were presented with the awards during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel, on July 14. The event also marked the 60th anniversary of RoSPA. The scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from the UK and overseas, considers entrants’ occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Chris Williams HSE Director from Compass Group UK and Ireland said: “We are extremely proud that across our business we have been presented with seven gold awards from RoSPA. Health and safety is a top priority and it is great to see different parts of Compass Group UK & Ireland achieving exceptional feedback. Our people are the heart of our business and this award highlights our approach to workforce safety and continued commitment to creating and maintaining a safe environment for our staff, clients and customers.”

And Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said: “To win an award at such a highly-regarded event as the RoSPA Awards is a great achievement for our winners. It recognises their commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record and raises the bar for other organisations to aspire to. We offer them our congratulations.
“This year was doubly special for our winners as their achievements were recognised as the RoSPA Awards celebrated its diamond anniversary, which is a ringing endorsement of the thousands of businesses and organisations that have committed to continuous improvement in accident and ill-health prevention.”
